Concept

SURREAL DREAM© uses the same kimono and obi as Gilded Cage© — pure silk, ordered from Japan — but a completely different wig: long, wavy hair moving through purple, blue, and lilac, caught mid-motion as though drifting rather than falling. The mannequin stood further back in the room this time, a blind as the backdrop, the lighting far from perfect. But something about that imperfection is part of what makes it work.

Across the different shots, the wig reads differently each time — the colour shifting depending on the light catching it. In one version, the background settles into a turquoise, almost aqua blue, and that's where the name earned itself: static, but dreamy. Nothing about the piece moves, and yet it feels like it might.

Making Of

Floral branches were placed around the mannequin specifically so they'd catch and register in the image — white blossoms, deep red roses, worked in around the hair and reaching out from an extended hand. The kimono and obi carried over from the same set used for Gilded Cage©, but the wig changes everything about the mood: looser, wilder, more atmospheric than structured.
