Concept

Gilded Cage© is built from surface — deliberately. Auburn hair, roses in matching tones, a genuine silk kimono I purchased from Japan, delicate netting laid over the face. Every element chosen to be beautiful, and arranged to be looked at.

What it means beyond that is something I'll leave for you to sit with rather than explain. Things can look complete, composed, even radiant, from the outside. Whether that's the whole truth of them is a different question — one this piece asks without answering.

Making Of

The wig itself was a short-fringed piece I bought and built the surrounding world around — orange and auburn tones, matched carefully against a spray of roses in the same warm palette. Physalis branches, papery and pale, were worked in and around her, along with smaller flowers threaded through at intervals. Everything attached by hand, piece by piece, until the whole arrangement framed her rather than simply decorated her.

The kimono is authentic — silk, sourced from Japan rather than styled to look the part. It carries its own weight and history into the piece, cream against the deep reds and oranges of the florals.
