Around 2014/2015, I did this transformation on my cousin —She was a professional stylist in her own right, so she always knew exactly what she wanted from a chair. She then went on to study at university and works in the Mental health sector for the NHS.

That made this an easy collaboration: we landed on a bold, saturated colour story together, moving from deep violet through to pinky-reds, the same range you'd find running through a bunch of tulips.

She's always suited bold — bold lipstick, bold makeup, bold styling — it's simply part of her identity, and this colour matched that completely. My cousin still wears her self identity as bold and striking and carries it well.

Making Of

This wasn't foiled. I worked through it freehand, painting the colour on in sections much like a classic French balayage — though wider and thicker than the fine balayage pieces usually call for, more like painting a canvas than precise weaving. The base was likely built with Wella Color Touch and Koleston as a semi-permanent and permanent foundation, with Crazy Color and Directions worked in on top for the vivid violet-to-pink tones. I can't be certain of the exact formulation this many years on, but the freehand, visual approach is one I always leaned on.
